Bollywood’s major troubles

Here’s a glance at the movies which raked in controversies and moolah.

For a film, controversy spells free publicity. Though it may or may not guarantee Box-office returns, it definitely helps in grabbing eyeballs and bringing it in the public eye. Here’s a look at the films which raked in controversies and moolah.

Aarakshan: Even before its release, the film had been mired in controversy with protests from various caste groups calling for a ban in three states. The producers had to cut parts of the film to calm the tension.

Rockstar: The song ‘Sadda Haq’ from ‘Rockstar’ was filmed in the Norbulingka Institute near Dharamsala. Following the censor board's directive, the words ‘Free Tibet’ had to be blurred from the flag, disappointing thousands of Tibetans living in India.

Ragini MMS: The horror film raised a lot of eyebrows for its explicit language and scenes. Few days before the release of the film, the ‘real Ragini’ -a Delhi-based girl called Deepika surfaced threatening to sue the filmmakers.

Delhi Belly: ‘D K Bose’-the profane anthem of the year among youth landed the film in controversy. The older generation was outraged because of its vulgur lyrics.

Heroine: Madhur Bhandarkar's self proclaimed magnum opus 'Heroine' was almost getting shelved when lead actress Aishwarya Rai announced her preganancy, putting a question mark on the film’s fate. Now the film is back on track with Kareena Kapoor replacing Aishwarya Rai.

Not a Love Story: On the day of the verdict of the Neeraj Grover murder case, Varma unveiled the first look of his film 'Not A Love Story' which is based on the same 2008 murder case.

Changers and Shakers of 2011

With most Bollywood actresses taking the item way, here’s start looking at the hottest item girls of 2011

Twenty years before, item numbers in a film had almost nothing to do with the plot of the movie and mostly offered as welcome break from the story. In Bollywood parlance, item girls were meant to be seductive, some also doubling up as vamps. No self-respecting actress would be seen in an item girl’s clothes in 70s, much less dance to one. But 90s saw a change in attitude towards when Madhuri Dixit she danced to ‘Ek Do Teen’ from ‘Tezaab’. After that, every Bollywood actress has tried their luck in ramping up their sex appeal with item numbers. Here’s a look at the hottest item girls of 2011

Deepika Padukone: This song showed Deepika in her hottest avatar. While remaking the classic Dev Anand song from ‘Haare Raama Haare Krishna’ got mixed reactions, the audience hooted and cheered as the leggy actress danced uninhibitedly in a white micro-mini with a tattoo on waist. Even Ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor applauded her for it.

Katrina Kaif: When it comes to friendship, Katrina Kaif never disappoints. The hot actress did an item song to promote 'good friend' Salman's movie 'Bodyguard'. The song ‘Aaya Re Bodyguard’, had Kat dancing in a black ghagra choli with Salman’s real-life bodyguard Sheera, and of course Salman himself.

Mallika Sherawat:Though Madam Sherawat’s career is going downhill, she is a big hit when it comes to item numbers. Last seen in the disastrous 'Hisss', Mallika decided to make up for that blunder by giving competition to Munnis and Sheilas and danced to three item numbers this year-Razia gundon mein phas gayi (Thank You), Shalu Ke Thumke (Bin Bulaaye Baraati) and Jalebi Bai (Double Dhamaal). Needless to say, we loved her shaking her booty in 'Jalebi Bai'.

Sarah Jane Dias: Ex Miss India World, Sarah Jane Dias, not only made her acting debut in 'Game' opposite Abhishek Bachchan, but also did her first item song called Mehki Mehki. Though her acting was nothing to write home about, her seductive number in a black corset, fishnet leggings and red lips made up for her miniscule role in the film.

Shweta Tiwari: The forever whining bahu of television set the big-screen on fire with two raunchy two item songs - Dil Ka Achaar (Bin Bulaye Baraati) and Katto Gilehri (Miley Na Miley Hum). With a svelte figure, sexy thumkaas and a rustic appeal, Shweta managed to give all item girls a run for their money.
