Sex and lies of 2011

Nothing sells like sex and this year was no different, with events both domestic and international keeping the world engaged. Here we pick five of the year's sleaziest scandals that hogged the headlines.

Former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna's alleged relationship with midwife Bhanwari Devi (left) and her subsequent disappearance cost him his chair in the Rajasthan cabinet and also landed him in jail.

Ginger White (right) and a series of sexcapades forced Herman Cain to withdraw from the race for the US President's post. Despite protestations from Cain, White claimed they had a physical relationship for 13 years.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's links with Ruby (right) are under probe. From teenage sensations to 20 somethings, Berlo's babes kept us hooked.

Alaska governor, television host and Tea Party darling Sarah Palin's fling with basketball player Glen Rice generated political heat and plenty of heartburn in her family.

Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's hunger for sex proved bigger than his desire to succeed Nicolas Sarkozy. What DSK saw in Guinean maid Nafissatou Diallo is for anyone to guess, but that one episode changed everything. French author and journalist Tristane Banon accused DSK of attempted rape even as tales of orgies and his wanton ways with prostitutes kept tumbling forth.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn's alleged sexual assault on Diallo (left) created a lot of buzz. Banon (right) also accused him of attempted rape.
